The product is recirculated by a high-flow pump through the heat exchanger and evaporates in a flash chamber under vacuum. It is the solution for viscous products, products with solids or products that crystallise, and for the last stages of a mixed evaporation system.
In the forced circulation evaporator the product is recirculated by a high-flow pump through the exchanger tubes, at a controlled velocity and with effective contact with the heating surface.
The product is heated in the exchanger but does not boil there: it is concentrated when it reaches the flash chamber, where the pressure drops because of the vacuum and part of the water evaporates instantly.
This achieves high transfer coefficients with problematic products, reduces fouling and extends the operating time between cleanings. Because the product circulates by pumps, the equipment can run well below its design capacity without fouling forming from product drying out.
Circulation does not depend on gravity or thermosiphon.
Maintains good coefficients in the most concentrated stages.
More flexibility for the plant layout.
It is used with products in which crystals or other solids precipitate, and in mixed systems: falling film or rising film in the first stages and forced circulation where the fluid is already very viscous, to improve transfer and reduce the size of the equipment. On the other hand, it consumes more electrical energy because of the pumps and has a longer residence time than a falling film.
