WSD Series

Industrial spray dryer

We turn your liquid product into powder with the quality, particle size and rehydration your process requires. We design and build the complete plant: chamber, atomisation, hot air generation, fines recovery and dry product handling.

Drying chamber in operation: the liquid is atomised into thousands of droplets and dries in seconds as it meets the hot air stream.

How spray drying works

Spray drying is the most widely used industrial route to obtain a powder from a liquid feed. The solution, suspension or slurry is atomised into very fine droplets inside a chamber through which hot air flows. The water evaporates in seconds and the solid falls as powder.

The time each droplet spends hot is short, which is why the technology suits heat-sensitive products: food, dairy, extracts, enzymes and active ingredients. Inlet and outlet air temperatures set both the capacity and the quality of the powder.

Atomisation can be by high-speed rotary disc or by pressure nozzles. The choice changes particle size and shape, and with them the bulk density, flowability and solubility of the finished product.

Typical applications

Dairy

Whole and skim milk, whey, permeate, proteins and dessert powders.

Food and beverage

Instant coffee, plant extracts, juices and purees, egg, seasonings and flavourings.

Fine chemicals

Pigments, catalysts, additives and detergents with controlled particle size.

Ceramics

Slurry atomisation into spherical granules of even moisture, ready for pressing.

Nutra and pharma

Hydrolysates, proteins, probiotics and active ingredients with strict hygiene demands.

Recoverable effluents

Streams with recoverable solids that become product instead of cost.

What the supply includes

  • Drying chamber with sanitary finish on every product contact surface
  • Atomisation system: rotary disc or pressure nozzles
  • Hot air generation and filtration, on gas, steam or electricity
  • Cyclone and bag filter separation with fines recovery
  • Powder conveying, cooling and packing
  • Control panel, automation and process data logging

How the machine is specified

  • Required evaporation capacity, in kg/h
  • Feed solids and final moisture wanted in the powder
  • Maximum temperature the product tolerates
  • Target bulk density and particle size
  • Energy available at the plant: natural gas, steam or electricity
  • Hygiene requirements, CIP cleaning and traceability

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum capacity?

We build configurable and bespoke machines up to 1,500 kg/h of evaporation. Capacity is always stated as water evaporated, not powder produced: it is the water that sets the size of the chamber and the energy bill.

Disc or nozzle?

It depends on the powder you need. A rotary disc handles suspensions and viscous products well and gives a finer particle; a pressure nozzle produces a larger, denser particle. Pilot plant trials settle it with the real product.

Should the feed be concentrated first?

If it comes in dilute, yes. Evaporating water in a falling film evaporator costs a fraction of evaporating it inside the dryer. The calculator on this site shows the saving with your own figures.
